About Foundation
Dr. Koppikar’s Foundation For Homoeopathy is an NGO dedicating itself to the service of mankind through the science of homoeopathy. It was the dream of Dr S P Koppikar - a Doyen in the field of Homeopathy and recognised internationally, to reach homoeopathy to every home . It has been a humble attempt by some of the dedicated Homeopathic physicians of Chennai to follow his footsteps & it is with this aim that Koppikar’s Foundation for Homoeopathy was born. The Foundation is run by contributions which are exempt under 80G .
The Foundation has conducted CMEs for doctors to keep them aligned with the latest medical developments as well as conducted camps for the masses . It has also released first aid books in English and Tamil and has distributed first aid homeopathic medicine kits .Recently the foundation ran a successful dengue prevention program with free distribution of medicine and pamphlets for vector control covering 80,000 people.
About Koppikar
Dr.Shankarao.Pandurang.Koppikar, fondly known as Dr Koppikar, started his career in 1937 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. A pioneer in propagating and popularizing the virtues of this natural and unique stream of medicine in Tamilnadu, he was one of the most experienced, renowned and respected homeopathic physician and an extremely busy practioner with a global clientele.
A Gold Medalist from Bengal Allen Homoeopathic Medical College, Calcutta, Dr Koppikar was instrumental in getting homoeopathy recognized in Tamil Nadu and also establishing homoeopathic Medical colleges. He held various positions as President of Tamil Nadu Homoeopathy Medical Council, Member – Central Council of Homoeopathy, Government of India, Scientific Advisory Committee member of Central Council of Research in Homoeopathy. Served as Chief Editor Homoeopathic Heritage International, New Delhi.
He has received various Awards and held positions as Senate Member, Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Member- Asian Homoeopathic Medical League, Founder and Ex. President- Tamilnadu Qualified Homoeopathic Doctors’ Association. HERF Award of the Homoeopathic Education and Research Foundation at Delhi – 1984, B. Jain International Award in Homoeopathy with Gold Medal – 1993. Central Council Silver Jubilee Honoraria award – 1998. Life Time Achievement Award by Karnataka Qualified Homoeopathic Doctors’ Association – 2000.
He has written a book titled " Koppikar's clinical experiences of 70 years in homoeopathy" and also “Serendipity” an Autobiography which was published in Oct 2007.
The Tamil version of his Autobiography was published in April 2010
He served for the welfare of the patient untiringly. Treated them empathically. Attended to the phone calls even in midnight. Always anxious and worried about the patients health. He spent most of his earnings for the charity. He made his personal needs the bare minimum.
Born on 12th April 1915 , he lived as a simple man till the inevitable end came on 15th April , 2008 .
His name will be synonymous with homoeopathy for ever.
